Home Wiring Repair Premium is not available at apartment complexes or commercial properties. Rental homes with the same qualification as a residential customer require the owner to enroll and be billed on their residential account.
  • No, there is no sales tax on the Home Wiring Repair Premium Service.
  • No, paying your monthly energy bill, which includes the monthly $10.99 charge for Home Wiring Repair Premium Service, is your consent for the service.
  • The annual limit amount is $2,500 per calendar year, which includes $100 annual limit for installation of ceiling fans, light fixtures or plug-in vehicle charging stations. The $2,500 limit is reset each year beginning in January. As repairs are completed during the year, the cost of the repair is deducted from the annual limit. If you go over the $2,500 limit during the year, you are required to pay the contractor directly for any overages, which are calculated at a 15% discount off the normal labor rate.
  • Yes, there is an initial 30-day waiting period for covered work. If you are a current Home Wiring Repair Essential customer and upgrading to Home Wiring Repair Premium, there is a 30-day waiting period for the annual limit of $2,500. Plug-in vehicle charging station installation is eligible upon receipt of enrollment. Noncovered work (that is eligible for the 15% discount) is offered as soon as the customer enrolls in either service.
  • The 15% non-covered repair discount is a 15% discount off the contractor's normal labor rates, paid directly to the contractor, and offered by the contractor for repairs not covered under the Home Wiring Repair Premium Service.
  • No, all Home Wiring Repair Premium repairs are scheduled by one of our representatives. For repairs, call 888.999.8856. If repairs are completed without contacting Duke Energy, the customer is fully responsible for all charges.
  • Step 1: Customer is responsible for purchasing a ceiling fan, light fixture or plug-in vehicle charging station.

    Step 2: Call 888.999.8856 to request service for installation. Let the representative know if this is a new installation or a replacement of an existing ceiling fan, light fixture or plug-in vehicle charging station.

    Step 3: Contractor will call customer to make an appointment. 

    Step 4: Installation of ceiling fan, light fixture or plug-in vehicle charging station is completed. If installation costs are less than $100, there is no cost to the customer. If the cost exceeds $100, the customer is responsible for the remaining balance, which is payable directly to the contractor at the time of installation. The amount over the $100 will be at a 15% discount off the normal labor rate.
  • You can cancel at any time, but there is a $150 reinstatement fee payable in full when you reinstate the service.
  • Home Wiring Repair Premium Service is automatically transferred to your new home when you move within Duke Energy's territory, and there is no 30-day waiting period for covered repairs. If you do not want Home Wiring Repair Premium Service at your new residence, simply call 888.999.8856.
  • An EVSE is a home charging station outlet/system installed in a garage or pre-determined outside location for charging a plug-in electric vehicle. EVSE can vary in voltage and amperage based on what is available in your home and recommendation by the vehicle manufacturer.
  • No, only the circuit and wiring that supplies service to the EVSE is covered for repair. An EVSE may be covered with an individual manufacturer warranty. For additional questions on your manufacturer warranty, please contact the supplier of the EVSE.

  • Yes, installation requires for the power to be turned off. The technician may request that you turn off any major appliances or sensitive electronics prior to cutting the power.
